The ranking came from the NCTE’s “Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines” (REALM) contest. Ursus earned a rank of “Nominated for REALM First Class” by NCTE members.
“The mission of NCTE’s REALM Program is to publicly recognize excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers,” said NCTE Executive Director Emily Kirkpatrick. “REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing.”
A total of 358 different schools from all over the United States, Canada, the Virgin Islands and American schools abroad entered the contest. Ursus was one of 41 to receive the award, with a score of 93 points out of a possible 100. Scores were based on content, quality, rhetorical variety, editing, artistic quality and front matter.
